Process of manual demolition of Nasla Tower begins

The process of demolishing the Nasla Tower located on Shahrah-e-Faisal has begun in the presence of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officials and Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon late Monday night.

The process of demolishing the Nasla Tower was started manually by the local administration while the Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered the demolition of the building by controlled blast.

Despite the order of Chief Justice of Pakistan, the administration was hesitant to demolish the building, but suddenly the process of demolishing the building started in the darkness.

Local administration likely to demolish Nasla Tower manually

It may be mentioned here that a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed will resume hearing the case tomorrow, in which the commissioner Karachi and Sindh government will be questioned about the demolition of the Nasla Tower and its report.

The administration is afraid that on one hand the Sindh government had passed a bill in the assembly against the demolition of illegal houses while on the other the Supreme Court had ordered demolition of Nasla Tower. In this situation, the local administration started the process of razing the walls of a flat on the 10th floor but disappeared later. On the direction of Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon, the staff of SBCA including deputy commissioner East Asif Jan reached the Nasla Tower and removed doors from apartments on two floors.

DC Asif Jan said that there was an offer from two companies to raze the Nasla Tower, which is under consideration. The manual demolition work will continue till the contract is awarded to any demolition company, he added.
