ISLAMABAD: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Rana Tanveer Ahmed has said that he ordered Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to take strict action against the factories preparing cooking oil from chicken waste.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has taken notice of illegal factories involved in manufacturing substandard cooking oil using chicken waste including intestine, offal, fats and other discarded poultry parts.
The illegal factories were also activated in different cities of Sindh without being caught by the concerned authorities.
Rana Tanveer told News360 correspondent that the issue has once again been discussed in the PAC session that chicken waste is being used to manufacture substandard cooking oil which is mostly being consumed by hotels and roadside vendors selling samosas, pakora and other food items.
A PAC Member Syed Hussain Tariq has also confirmed that many illegal factories are still running in Sindh in which substandard cooking oil is being manufactured by melting chicken intestine and other discarded parts.
Following the complaints, the PAC chairman ordered PSQCA to immediately take strict action against such oil units.
Rana Tanveer said that when he was serving as a minister, such factories were completely sealed. He expressed outrage that the substandard products are hazardous to our generations.
He was of the view that although, it was a provincial matter, however, PSQCA officials should make efforts to stop the heinous business after consulting the provincial governments.
