PTI gives first public reaction to ECP
PTI central leader Fawad Chaudhry has announced that workers will be staging sit-ins outside the ECP offices across the country.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader Fawad Chaudhry has announced that workers will be staging sit-ins outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ECP offices across the country against the biased attitude of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The PTI will hold protests outside the ECP offices across the country today (Tuesday) against the alleged bias of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). In its first reaction, the ECP issued notices to the PTI dissident members.
Reacting to the demand for the resignation of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja said that he had no intention of resigning and would continue to work in the best interest of the country.
The announcement for today’s protest outside ECP offices was made by Fawad Chaudhry via his tweet.
The former information minister wrote that in a meeting of the political committee chaired by the chairman today, they reviewed the CEC moves. It seems that the CEC is a worker of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the whole of Pakistan will protest against his biased attitude of him.
In his message, Fawad Chaudhry said that “further delay in issuing the notification would be tantamount to violation of the Constitution. The whole of Pakistan will come out tomorrow and a peaceful protest against the conduct of the ECP will be recorded at the district headquarters.”
Criticizing the biased attitude of the CEC, Fawad Chaudhry added that the election commission should play role in the interest of Pakistan. He questioned ECP regarding the delay in issuing notices to the PTI turncoats.
However, the CEC refused to resign, saying he had no reason to tender his resignation.
Speaking at a press conference in Bani Gala on April 23, ex-PM Imran Khan had also accused CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja of bias and demanded his resignation.
Earlier, Imran Khan had announced that PTI would file a reference against Sikandar Sultan Raja for failing to complete the delimitation of the constituencies on time.
In view of the PTI protest, the roads leading from D-Chowk to Parliament House in the federal capital were sealed with containers including the entrances and exit routes to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headquarters.
Islamabad administration has placed containers on Margala Road and Serena Chowk to stop the PTI rally.
The administration has enforced Section 144 in the Red Zone while the PTI and other political parties have been appealed not to enter the Red Zone. Police and anti-riot forces have been deployed by the Islamabad administration.
Islamabad police said in a statement that the lawbreakers will be dealt with strict action.
