Record 19.1 million children vaccinated against measles and rubella in Sindh

Dr Azra says over 150 mobile teams also participated in the vaccination campaign.

The vaccination campaign against measles and rubella ended in Sindh, during which more than 0.5 million children of the set target were vaccinated.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho said  that 18.6 million children from nine months to five years were administered the measles and rubella vaccine.

She said that the campaign, which continued from November 15 to 27, set a record of vaccination of more than 19.1 million children.  Dr Azra Pechuho appreciating the efforts of all those who were are part of the campaign paid a tribute to the district administration, doctors, nurses, vaccinators, lady health workers and health scholars. The national measles and rubella prevention campaign will have long lasting results.

Dr. Azra said that a total of 16,000 teams visited door-to-door besides 2,000 fixed points and vaccinated children. More than 150 mobile teams also participated in this campaign of measles and rubella.

On the other hand, the Sindh health department said that earlier in 2018 measles cases had significantly decreased after measles vaccination.

According to the health department, there were 38 deaths from measles this year. Measles and rubella vaccine will be part of routine immunization for the next year. Officials said that every child who reaches the age of 6 months will be vaccinated with measles and rubella.
