Reham Khan Tenders Apology to Aneel Musarrat

Reham made allegations against the business tycoon that the Roosevelt Hotel in London was secretly purchased by Musarrat

British-Pakistani journalist and ex-wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Reham Khan, unconditionally  apologized for accusing renowned British-Pakistani businessman Aneel Musarrat, who is considered a close friend of Pakistani premier.

In a video on her YouTube channel, Reham made allegations against the real-estate tycoon that the Roosevelt Hotel in London was secretly purchased by Musarrat, a property previously owned by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

She stated in her apology, “I run a YouTube channel called ‘Reham Khan Official’, on December 6, 2019, I uploaded a video which was 46 minutes and 27 seconds long and was watched by about 37,000 people. In that video, I quoted Mr. Aneel Musarrat and said several sentences about him.”

“I completely withdraw my comments about Aneel Musarrat and I apologize for the inconvenience caused to Mr. Musarrat in business or charitable work, I will not comment further in this matter”, the apology affidavit added.

Earlier, Reham accused the Special Assistant to PM Imran Khan, Zulfi Bukhari, that he had a personal interest in the sale of Roosevelt Hotel.

The unconditional apology by Reham was appreciated by many prominent figures including singer Ali Zafar and CEO of Talking Point, Fareshteh Aslam.

Ali Zafar, a victim of defamation, was accused by actress Meesha Shafi in 2018. Shafi took to her Twitter account to accuse Zafar of harassing her on “more than one occasion”.

Since then, a legal battle is on between the two artists. Ali had denied the charges and wants Meesha to pay restitution for the damage she caused him with the false statements.

However, Fareshteh Aslam also appreciated the act by Reham and tweeted, “Better late than never”.

According to defamation laws in Pakistan, “The publication of defamatory matter is an actionable wrong without proof of special damage to the person defamed. A violation under said law shall constitute compensatory damages not less than Rs.300,000 for the initiator”.
