Sindh govt faces new challenge after PSP holds sit-in against LG law

PSP chief Mustafa Kamal announced to convert protest rally into a sit-in at Fawara Chowk on Sunday, demanding the withdrawal of the controversial Sindh LG law.

KARACHI: After the end of Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) 29-day sit-in, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led Sindh government has faced a new challenge after Mustafa Kamal-led Pak-Sarzameen Party (PSP) held sit-in against the LG law in Karachi.

PSP chief Mustafa Kamal announced to convert it’s protest rally into a sit-in at Fawara Chowk on Sunday, demanding the withdrawal of the controversial Sindh LG law. He also rejected the agreement JI-PPP made regarding the amendments in the Sindh LG law.

PSP had earlier announced a protest demonstration at the same venue to demand the withdrawal of Sindh LG law which was rejected by almost all of the opposition parties following serious reservations over the seizure of powers from the mayor.

Mustafa Kamal addressed the PSP workers regarding the future strategy of the protest that it will now continue till their reservations over the LG law are being heard by the Sindh government. However, he said that they will not go to the CM House and wait for the Sindh government’s decision to listen to their demands.

Later, a delegation comprising of PPP senior leaders including Sindh minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, Waqar Mehdi and others met Mustafa Kamal and PSP leaders on Sunday midnight.

After a round of talks, Mustafa Kamal and Nasir Hussain Shah addressed a press conference in which they announced to continue discussions on the Sindh LG law.

However, both sides have seemingly failed to reach any agreement for making amendments to the LG law.

Both sides said they will continue their talks on Monday as well.
