Supreme Court orders demolition of Tejori Heights within a month
Counsel for the builder assures court to vacate the structure built on railway land
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Karachi Commissioner to demolish the Tejori Heights within a month.
During the hearing, the lawyer of the owner of Tejori Heights assured to vacate the premises.
A case of construction of illegal Tejori Heights on railway lands was heard in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. A three-member large bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case.
The court ordered the demolition of the structure and added that that the families living in the building should be provided alternative accommodation within 3 weeks.
During the hearing, Raza Rabbani, a lawyer for the owner of Tejori Heights, told the court that his clients were ready to vacate the premises and needed time to resolve the issues with allottees and demolish the structure.
The Supreme Court allowed the builder to submit records and shift goods and ordered the commissioner Karachi to monitor the demolition.

The court also ordered to complete the process of demolition of the structure within a month and observed that a report should be submitted after paying compensation to the allottees within three months.
The Supreme Court had ordered Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon and the builder to demolish the structure and submit a report.
It may be mentioned here that earlier the apex court had ordered the demolition of the Nasla Tower on Shahra-e-Faisal by controlled blasting and asked the commissioner to submit its report.
The written order states that the method used to demolish buildings around the world should be adopted. Modern detonation is being used all over the world, including in neighbouring India
The court has written in its judgment to ensure that there were no casualties during the demolition of the Nasla Tower. The demolition process should be completed within a week after October 27.
The apex court in its written order further said that the cost of demolition of Nasla Tower should be borne by the owner of the building.
