A Lahore-based The Friday Times founded by Najam Sethi, who is also editor-in-chief of the English weekly, has published a controversial article ‘maliciously’ using a columnist, Yusuf Zaman’s name.

Columnist Yusuf Zaman noticed that his name was ‘maliciously’ used in an article, “Tragedy Foretold: Three Fatal Decisions That Led To The 1971 Conflict”, published on January 30 by The Friday Times.

He wrote on Twitter to clarify, “I have not written anything of this sort. You have wrongly tagged me. Please correct it.”

Later, he protested, “Despite multiple requests The Friday Times has not removed my name from an article that I never wrote. TFT has deleted Tweet that has maliciously tagged me. Plz delete my name from Article. I expect public apology.”

Zaman’s latest article, Delimitation in IIOJK reflects Hindu supremacist mindset, was published in an English daily, Express Tribune, today.

Some journalists have found the controversial map of Jammu and Kashmir in TFT’s article.

Sumaira Khan wrote, “Pakistan’s map according to The Friday Times. I thought I am looking at some Indian newspaper.”

Maleeha Hashmey criticised, “Another lie of Najam Sethi’s sparrow is caught.”

Farooq Hameed Khan said, “What a shame. Unbelievable. What has gone wrong with Najam Sethi and @TFT_. Writing/ attributing this nonsensical article to young, patriotic dynamic lawyer writer Yusuf Zaman is third rate journalism. FridayTimes shud withdraw this article and offer public apology immediately.”

After much hue and cry on Twitter, TFT has changed the author’s details on the article who also spelt the same, Yusuf Zaman.

According to the updated information, “The writer is a barrister with over twenty years of varied legal practice in Pakistan, UAE and Australia. He is currently an entrepreneur and the co-founder/operator of an online home-based confectionery business. The history and politics of Pakistan is his abiding passion.”
