Second Back to Back Explosion in Karachi in Two Days

This is the second such incident in the city after yesterday's blast in Shereen Jinnah Colony.

KARACHI: At least five people have reportedly been killed while 27 others injured in an explosion at a residential building near Maskan Chowrangi of Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Metropolitan. This is the second such incident in the city after yesterday’s blast in Shereen Jinnah Colony.

Police, Rangers and rescue teams have reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Ali have reached the incident site to inspect rescue operations.

The administrator directed to expedite rescue operations while Ghani said that the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the same.

Sindh Chief Secretary has also summoned a report on the incident from the Karachi Commissioner.

The minister said that all victims have been evacuated from the building and moved to different public hospitals. He added that the cause of the incident was yet to be determined.

Ghani said that the government was arranging shelter for those who have lost their homes in the blast.

The minister told that the affected building would be demolished as it had become uninhabitable now due to damage to the structure.

The injured are being shifted to the hospitals where the condition of several people has been reported as critical.

According to the Police, a security guard was injured was in the blast, and the wounds on his body indicate that it was a gas leakage blast.

The explosion was reported on the ground floor of the four-storey Allah Noor Apartments in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The apartments opposite to the Karachi University gate.

There are fears that some people might be stuck beneath the rubble.

One section of the apartment has collapsed while the top floors have been evacuated.

The Mobina Town police station is very close to the blast site. Multiple small restaurants are also located in the area. The area is not a commercial however it is densely populated.

Police officials also maintained that it is a cylinder blast, but only the BDS team can determine the nature of the blast.

Sindh Health Secretary Dr Kazim Jatoi visited Patel Hospital in Karachi and inquired after health of the blast victims.

He refuted claims of victims being charged for treatment and said that the government was bearing all expenses and to ensure this, he was visiting different private hospitals where the injured were receiving treatment.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, a blast was also occurred Shireen Jinnah Colony was initially declared a cylinder blast but ball bearings were later found from the site..
