TikTok Launches TV App, Users Can Now Watch Videos in Horizontal Form

TikTok, one of the trendy apps, makes the leap to smart TVs to enjoy all the content on a larger screen.

TikTok is one of the most successful launches in recent history. Its number of users does not stop growing day by day and it has become one of the applications where young people spend the most time.

After conquering the mobile phones of half the world, the Chinese app has decided that it is time to jump to a bigger playing field and we will soon be able to make use of it on our smart televisions.

TikTok TV (this is how this application will be called) will function very similar to what we already know on mobile phones. The idea when moving to a larger screen is that we can share its content with members of our family or with whom we live and enjoy it in groups. “Our global communities are remarkable for their ability to reach millions of people across generations,” commented one of their leaders.

The app adapted for televisions will also have the “For you” and “Following” tabs that we have in the mobile version. The “Discover” tab, meanwhile, has been redesigned to include more content on those topics in which we have shown interest. Of course, adapting a vertical video format to a horizontal screen can be somewhat shocking at first.

At the moment, the app was only available in the United States and Canada for models with Amazon Fire TV. Now, the application reaches devices with Android TV and certain models of Samsung and LG. This last company has ensured that the app will reach all models with webOS 5.0 and webOS 6.0, so once your TV is updated you will be able to enjoy this app.

According to GizChina, some users in France, UK and Germany can already download TikTok on their Samsung smart TVs or those using Android TV or Fire TV. Taking into account that its expansion in Europe is already a reality, it seems a matter of time that it is also available for these same models in Spain. Unfortunately, neither TikTok nor LG have yet announced when that time will come.

The impact of this new platform has been such that even competing social networks, such as Instagram, have chosen to copy its strategy. In fact, a few months ago, Instagram introduced Reels, its extension for short videos within the app.

Currently, among all platforms, TikTok has been installed more than 3.3 billion times and has more than one billion active users every month. According to a recent study, this platform has generated an ecosystem of more than 1000 applications with different functionalities for this social network. The total number of downloads of these applications has exceeded 1,200 million.
