WEB DESK: Turkish interior ministry has placed a ban on smoking in public sites to stem transmission of the novel coronavirus.
The practice would remain halted in busy streets, bus stops, and public squares when necessary. The ministry, in a statement, said that the public should follow mask-wearing orders at all times.
The smokers have been constantly violating the restriction since the pandemic broke out in the country, the ministry stated.
The interior ministry has given the authority to the provinces to impose movement restrictions on people aged above 65.
The governors of Istanbul and Ankara have imposed these restrictions as the elderly citizens are only allowed to be out of home between 10 am and 4 pm.
