Twitch, Game Streaming Service, Confirmed Data Hacked
Streaming and gaming company Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, says they had a data breach Wednesday morning.
Most popular game streaming service Twitch has confirmed what appears to be a serious data breach. The Amazon-owned company, which streams more than 7 million YouTubers every month, announced it on Wednesday in a statement on Twitter.
“We can confirm that a violation has occurred. Our teams are working urgently to understand the extent of the injury, ”the company said.
NPR was unable to independently verify specific details about the data breach, but an anonymous hacker posted 125 gigabytes of Twitch data on the online chat forum 4chan, according to the Video Games Chronicle website. Website, details of the author’s payments and names of the company’s customers.

The anonymous 4chan user who allegedly posted the Twitch data said it did so to “encourage more disruption and competition in the online video streaming space,” according to the Video Games Chronicle.
Since its inception in 2011, Twitch has grown in popularity, allowing players to stream live during the game so fans can see the action in real time. Amazon bought the company in 2014 for $ 970 million.
