What Pakistanis Hope From The New US President-Elect?
Most of them believe a slight change in policies towards the Muslim world while some are still skeptical
As the United States (US) Presidential Election concludes with declaring Democrat Joe Biden as the new occupant of the White House, the Pakistanis across the country are looking for better relations between both countries.
Most of the citizens from three big cities of Pakistan called Donald Trump’s policies as well as his personality the reason behind his defeat in the presidential election.
The people of the country are anticipating a healthy relationship between both countries under President-Elect Joe Biden.
News360 talked to several people in Karachi, Peshawar, and Lahore to take their views and know their expectations with a democrat coming into power.
KARACHI
The citizens of the largest city of Pakistan, Karachi, hoped that Biden would prove better than Trump. They contended that the latter has hinted at establishing good relations with Muslim countries. “ His past is not stained”, the citizens commented on the president-elect.
They believed that Pakistan’s economy would also prosper due to a change in policies expected under the president-elect.
Some citizens want the democrat to create ease for Pakistan and hoped that the upcoming time would prove better for both countries.
However, some held bitter views. A Karachi local commented that United States (US) was not a friend but a foe. “ America is a thief which is plundering the poor countries”, he commented.
PESHAWAR
Most of the citizens of the oldest city in the country believe that be it Trump or Biden or anyone, the policies of the US, in general, would not change. “ The policies do not change with the change of faces”, they added.
However, the locals of Peshawar hoped that under the democrat, the policies of the US may get a bit soft towards Pakistan. Along with it, amelioration in the condition of the Middle East could be expected as well.
A local journalist of Peshawar termed Donald Trump as a ‘puerile’ president. He said that Trump’s decisions regarding the Muslim world were not that positive. He asserted that the policies would remain the same however an improvement in the relations between Pakistan and the US could be expected under Biden.
Some still seemed skeptical of the future and said that nobody should be happy hoping for discernibility.
“The US is the superpower which will uphold its policies”, a Peshawar local maintained.
He went on to say that America’s foreign policy would not change as it is formulated keeping in view certain agendas and to keep the country’s interests protected.
LAHORE
The locals of Lahore said regarding Trump that his decisions for the world were mostly wrong, particularly for the Muslim population, and expressed hope that Biden would reverse them. They wished for reforms in the relations between Pakistan and the US.
Some citizens expressed that America has always used Pakistan for its own interests. “ We want relations based on equality”, they added.
