Will PML-N’s Aggressive Stance Leave it in Isolation?

WEB DESK: Can the aggressive course chosen by the opposition party Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) lead it into isolation?

Other opposition parties united under the banner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have started to distance themselves from PML-N after its belligerent narrative against the state institutions.

In the latest interview with BBC, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto recalled that the parties in PDM agreed upon publicizing the establishment’s alleged role in the elections and not on taking the name of an individual.

However, when PML-N Head Nawaz Sharif accused Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa of ‘rigging the election’ in PDM’s Gujranwala rally in October.

Soon after this, fissures started to emerge within PML-N and many party officials distanced themselves from the narrative.

When asked about such allegations, Bilawal said in the same interview that it was ‘shocking’ to hear and maintained when a seasoned politician like Nawaz Sharif had revealed names openly, he must have had some kind of evidence which he expects would be brought up soon.

Further, the PML-N Leader Maryam Nawaz has started to emulate her father too.

One of the examples of it is the rejection of clarifications given by Sindh Former Governor Muhammad Zubair in defense of Maryam Nawaz on her statements about those who had left the party at this time.

Zubair had said in a television (TV) show that Maryam Nawaz surrounding ‘Lotas’, who left the party, that she did not actually mean to physically threaten them. Instead, Maryam Nawaz got exasperated and said during a public address that she actually meant it.

Maryam Nawaz said that they would cordon off all ‘ Lotas’ and would not let them hide.

Another example is of PML-N MPA Jaleel Ahmed Sharaqpuri who revolted against Nawaz Sharif’s Gujranwala speech and labeled it against national interest.

However, Shakarpuri was mistreated by party officials on reaching the Punjab Assembly to attend the session and he was prevented from entering the house while a ‘ Lota’ was placed over his head too.

PML-N Balochistan President Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch has also parted ways from the party for its statements against Pakistan Army.

The art of politics is known to change impossible into possible.

Mian Nawaz Sharif had borne the burden of aggressive statements in the past too and his daughter Maryam Nawaz is on the same path.

The path chosen by both family members can leave them fenced.
