Will Protests and Pre-caution Go Hand in Hand?
The district administration has given permission for the PDM meeting, but there are concerns about the implementation of precautionary measures.

On Thursday, Asad Umar, Pakistan’s federal minister for development and planning and chairman of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), said in a tweet on a social networking site that there were clear indications of an increase in the corona virus in the country. And yesterday, 2.37% positive cases came in the country, which is the highest rate of positive cases in 50 days.
In another tweet, he warned that Corona cases were on the rise in some of the country’s largest cities, and that further sanctions could be imposed if precautions were not taken.
The government minister’s tweet came at a time when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of opposition parties, or the Pakistan Democratic Movement, had obtained permission to hold a protest rally at Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala last night.
Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections. There are 28 points in the notification issued after the agreement reached between the PDM and the district administration.
Users on social networking sites are expressing different views for and against it. Opponents of the rally have argued that gathering such a large number of people is in fact contrary to precautionary measures, and that measures such as maintaining physical distance and wearing a mask are not possible during the rally.
While the people are in favor of the protest rallies saying that the PTI Government has dual face because at the one hand, it takes credit to get rid of corona from the country while at the other, it shows apprehension of spreading corona once again.
Health experts say that at a time when the corona pandemic is swirling around the world, a country like Pakistan needs to be extremely careful where the health system is not in good condition.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the ruling Sindh People’s Party (PPP), has repeatedly called for the implementation of anti-corona measures but he will himself leave the GT Road in a convoy after holding a news conference on Friday and address a public gathering in Karachi on October 18.
