Child Abuse: A Proliferating Occurrence in Punjab

Child abuse is not a recherché occurrence in Pakistan. Lack of communication between parents and children can catalyst these incidents in society. Victims of this menace have to deal with the trauma and agony of the incident for the rest of their lives.

Some 11 children including girls have been molested and killed in the provincial capital Lahore alone this year.

As per the reports, more than 13 children mainly pre-teens were targeted and abused across Punjab province.

Whereas, the provincial capital is also in a predicament having around 220 cases of child abuse in the current year.

On average, four minors are targeted and molested daily in the province due to the inconsiderate attitude of the Police department. As per the data provided by police, around 1,329 minors were molested in Punjab this year.

A total of 895 cases of molestation and 424 cases of rape were reported in the police stations across the province while six boys and five girls were also killed.

Minors are unsafe in Lahore

In Lahore, as many as 220 children were sexually assaulted this year. In the reported cases, 124 minor boys were abused and 96 minor girls were raped.

In a recent incident, a seven-year-old Ehsan was molested and stabbed to death in Lahore. Ehsan was abused by his neighbors Faraz and Abdullah who later stabbed the child to death to avert action.

The incident took place in the Green Bagriyan area where the convicts took the victim in a house. Later, the suspects tried to frame it as a road accident but residents of the area informed the police about the offense.
