Famous Personalities Who Died In Pakistan In 2020
All of them will always be remembered as they contributed immensely for the country
Many would remember the year 2020 one of the deadliest years in history where life changed for many. Pakistan was also hit severely and many famous personalities died in 2020. These personalities belonged to different walks of life, and we will try to pay a tribute to them by remembering them on the first eve of New Year.
Religious Scholars
It was a sad year for religious scholars who left for their heavenly abode during the last 12 months. The first one to go was Mufti Muhammad Naeem who was not just an Islamic scholar but also served as Chancellor of Jamia Binoria.
His death at 62 on 20th June left millions of his followers saddened; two days after his death, another religious scholar and renowned orator Allama Talib Johri breathed his last at the age of 80.
On 26th June, former Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami Munawar Hasan passed away while the renowned religious scholar Zamir Akhtar Naqvi also left his fans saddened with his final bow.
The head of Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi lost his life to COVID-19 on 20th November.
Politicians
Pakistan lost politicians too including veteran politicians and leader of National Party Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo on 20th August. Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Waqar Ahmed Seth also breathed his last on 12th November.
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the former President of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Zafarullah Khan Jamali lost his life on 3rd November while just one day later, former Accountability Judge Arshad Malik expired suddenly.
Showbiz
The entertainment industry was dealt with huge blows throughout the year. Another famous personality of Pakistan, Comedian Aman Ullah passed away on 6th March, playwright actor Athar Shah Khan Jaidi left his fans saddened with his death on 10th May, while model Zara Abid’s tragic death in the Karachi plane crash on 22nd May left her followers in shock.
Renowned lyricist Shakeel Sohail and ‘Guest House’ famed Tariq Malik passed away on 11th June while legendary film and TV actress Sabiha Khanum’s death in the United States left the film industry saddened.
Veteran TV & film actor, compere, and host Tariq Aziz also left his fans saddened with his departure to the hereafter on 17th June; he was 82 years old and had conducted ‘Neelam Ghar’ for 45 years on PTV.
Another veteran Film and TV actor Mirza Shahi lost his life to COVID-19 on 29th September while the ‘Heer’ of Punjabi Cinema Firdous Begum couldn’t survive from a brain hemorrhage and died at 73 on 16th December.
The last showbiz famous personality from Pakistan to die during 2020 was Mahmood Jamal who passed away on 23rd December in London; he wrote and produced Sanam Saeed drama ‘Rahm’ that won multiple awards internationally.
Sports
As many as four Pakistani Test Cricketers passed away during the last 12 months; including fast bowler Mohammad Munaf who died at 84 in Amsterdam on 28th January.
One of the prominent Cricketers from the 1950s and member of the first Test squad Waqar Hasan passed away on 10th February while Khalid Wazir breathed his last in England on 27th April.

the legendary hockey player and Captain of the 1984 Gold-medal winning Olympic squad Rasheed Junior also breathed his last in Islamabad on 5th November.
His 96 international goals remained a national record for Pakistan at the time of his retirement.
