Indian Fake News Network Exposed, Will UN Take Action?

Several NGOs and news outlets were part of an Indian network that is operational over a decade to malign Pakistan's international reputation

The report of the EU Chronicles exposed Indian fake news network and substantiated the stance of Pakistan that its neighbor has long-remained involved in propagandizing against Pakistan.

DisinfoLab, a non-government organization (NGO) under the European Union (EU), unearthed an Indian network that has tarnished Pakistan’s image for the last 15 years and influenced decisions of the United Nations (UN).

More than 10 fake NGOs help to spur the Indian mission to defame Pakistan internationally by establishing its links with terrorist groups.

The network is operated by New Delhi based Srivastava Group.

A number of digital news agencies working under the banner of the group while it operated India’s largest video news agency, Asian News International (ANI), which is a partner of Reuters news agency.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi pointed out that ANI had a partnership with British News Agency, Reuters. He added that ANI fed Reuters with fake news too.

However, the British news agency recanted the allegations of Pakistan’s FM and clarified that it was only a minority shareholder in ANI but had no influence in its editorial operations.

“As is the case with all our editorial partners and suppliers, we review ANI’s raw, unedited video content shot within India, and exercise our own news judgment about what we distribute and publish”, Reuters said in a statement.

In light of the report, it is yet to be seen if the UN takes action against India or will it be exonerated from its involvement likewise many other past incidents aimed at maligning Pakistan.

Lieutenant General (R) Amjad Shoaib said that Pakistan was required to investigate on its own after publishing of EU report.
