Protest Called-Off – LHWs left Islamabad on Seventh Day

ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) who had been staging a sit-in at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, called it off after an agreement with the government on Tuesday.

The protesters decided to return homes from D-Chowk after the government formed a committee to review their demands including increment in salaries and formation of service structure.

A number of LHWs under the federal government were encamped in the federal capital since October 24. Their demands included pays equivalent to LHWs working under provincial governments, increment in salaries, and pensions commiserating rise in inflation and others.

LHWs had earlier complained about the government being apathetic towards them and lending a deaf ear to their demands. In this attempt, the workers tried to march towards the Parliament House multiple times but could not scale impediments.

Multiple rounds of negotiations with district administration and government officials failed only until the State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan visited the protesters again late Monday night and promised to have their concerns resolved.

The government also issued a notification stating that it would forward the demands of identical salaries and others to the Council of Common Interest (CCI).
