The Apathy of Politics Doesn’t Spare Its Followers

WEB DESK: Mother of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Head Nawaz Sharif and President Shehbaz Sharif passed away in London on Sunday.

PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, who has been declared ‘absconder’ by the court, is unlikely to return to the country to attend the last rites of his mother.

He could not even attend his father’s funeral prayers. He was in exile in Saudi Arabia at that time.

This is the second death in the Sharif family in recent years as Nawaz Sharif’s wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, passed away at 68 in London in September 2018.

The former PM and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were serving sentences in Adyala Jail in Rawalpindi when Kulsoom Nawaz died.

They came out of jail on paroles now, PML-N Head is in London for treatment since he was convicted in a corruption case.

He would not be able to attend the funeral of his mother being abroad.

However, Shehbaz Sharif would attend it as the PML-N officials said that they would get him out on parole.

The saga of politics is apathetic to its followers and it does not entertain their sufferings too.

It is apathetic towards relations and emotions.

The same happened with Nusrat Bhutto, the wife of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

Her husband and all three children including Benazir Bhutto, the first female prime minister of Pakistan, Murtaza Bhutto, and Shahnawaz Bhutto were assassinated or killed.

The pain of her husband’ s irreparable loss was still fresh in her heart when Shahnawaz Bhutto her youngest son was poisoned to death in Paris.

He was only 27 in 1985. This was a great shock for her and affected her health badly.

Her elder and only surviving son, Mir Murtaza Bhutto was murdered near the family home in Karachi, near 70- Clifton on September 20, 1996 during her daughter’s rule.

Such is the ruthlessness of politics in Pakistan that she outlived all of them, and only the apolitical daughter Sanam Bhutto is still alive.
