Judge Arshad Malik Dies With Secrets Buried in Chest

WEB DESK: The accountability court judge Arshad Malik, who convicted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference, succumbed to the coronavirus on Friday.

Former Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik was under treatment for the last 25 days in a private hospital in Islamabad and was moved to a ventilator two days ago.

Malik left behind a wife, two sons, and two daughters.

Who Was Arshad Malik?

Malik had awarded seven years of rigorous punishment to ex-premier along with a fine in Al-Azizia reference while acquitted Nawaz Sharif in flagship investments reference.

However, the deceased was terminated from service over misconduct.

What led to his termination?

Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz came up with a video in which Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) official Nasir Butt and Judge Arshad Malik could be seen engaged in a conversation.

Maryam Nawaz asserted that the former judge was pressurized into convicting Nawaz Sharif. She claimed that the former judge had accepted it too while meeting Nasir Butt.

While hearing the case on the same issue, the Supreme Court (SC) ordered that the affidavit submitted by the accountability judge was a confession to the offense.

The apex court had said in its judgment that the conduct of the former judge of the accountability court was a disgrace to the institution and the heads of honest judges had hung in shame.

Later, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had formed a seven-member committee that conducted an investigation into the video released by Maryam Nawaz and found Arshad Malik guilty of the offense as he confessed to convicting Nawaz under duress.
