A case of running PML-N by Nawaz Sharif from British national’s office

Whether the ruling PML-N Quaid Nawaz would face accountability for running his political party from the British national's office

After the verdict against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the prohibited funding case, a question arose whether the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz would face accountability for running his political party from the British national’s office in London.

PTI leaders including Imran Khan were seen facing the accountability process for receiving political funds from foreign nationals and announced to continue the legal battle against the verdict announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

On the other hand, the PML-N set a different example and tried to skip the accountability process with different excuses before the courts.

One such example is Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz as they commented on the summons issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that the laws do not apply to them due to their British nationalities.

When the Panama case is going on, Geo News journalist Murtaza Ali Shah had interviewed Hassan and Hussain Nawaz in which they said that they are British citizens and how can any institution call them for inquiry in Pakistan.

The statement of Nawaz Sharif’s son came forth after an accountability court ordered the initiation of the process of declaring Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz proclaimed offenders for not appearing before the court in 2017.

Both the brothers have said that they have not been given the summons yet. It was announced that the process of declaring Hasan and Hussain proclaimed offenders will involve publication of notices in the newspapers directing the accused to appear in court and failure to do so will result in the seizure of property and issuance of further warrants.

Hasan Nawaz, a respondent in the references filed by NAB against the Sharif family, told Geo News that the court cannot declare him a proclaimed offender.

“I am not a proclaimed offender and the NAB cannot make someone a proclaimed offender. In the absence of a crime, they are trying to catch a black cat in the dark,” he told.

Hasan said he has not received any NAB summons at his residential address in London where he has been living for the last 24 years. The former prime minister’s son said he is a British citizen and has never received the said summons according to British laws.

Analysts said that Hassan and Hussain Nawaz are British citizens and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif sits in their office and takes part in national politics from there. They said that whether the PML-N would response the questions or not.
