Accountability of elites: Shiffa Yousafzai responds to Arshad Aziz Malik’s argument

Shiffa Z Yousafzai responds to the Arshad Aziz Malik's argument regarding his point of view on public accountability of the ruling and powerful elites in the country.

Journalist and anchorperson Shiffa Z Yousafzai has responded to the investigative journalist Arshad Aziz Malik’s argument regarding his point of view on public accountability of the ruling and powerful elites in the country.

The debate started after anchorperson Moeed Pirzada tweeted in support of the ruthless accountability of ruling elites and powerful personalities having public offices.

‘No place to get justice’: Shiffa Yousafzai accuses FIA of selective action

Moeed Pirzada wrote on Twitter that the public office holders who are controlling tax payer’s money are answerable to public and hooting by public on politicians is part of democracy. He criticised that hiding behind courts is a Pakistani politician’s excuse while democracy is purely a western concept. Pirzada added that the establishment is using democracy to project a good face before the West.

In another tweet, he was of the view that politicians and other public office holders hiding behind courts is Pakistani politician & media’s stupid invention. “Public office holders need to patiently explain charges against them to public satisfaction! Western leaders do it painstakingly and satisfy public if charges are not convincing!”

To this, investigative journalist Arshad Aziz Malik argued that Moeed Pirza was encouraging everyone to be independent to label any politician ‘thief and dacoit’ despite the presence of the courts in the country. “If it happens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), it will turn out to be personal enmity. You should teach people to be civilised instead of encouraging them for sabotaging everything.”

Shiffa Yousafzai responded to Malik’s argument in the befitting manner, saying that she also approached the court to seek justice but Justice Athar Minallah ended PECA Section 20 and gave another opportunity to the brigade involved in abusive campaigns against the women. She added that the centre of the power will only be the nation if people do not get justice from the courts.

Malik replied that Yousafzai has definitely suffered extreme mental trauma due to the condemnable act. He, however, criticised her for allegedly backing the immoral act. He was said to be pointing out the incident of a restaurant where a family raised slogans of ‘chor chor’ in front of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and federal minister Ahsan Iqbal.

Yousafzai added that if a mischievous person runs a abusive campaign against women for their character assassination then it would be called journalism but if the nation holds someone accountable, these people start delivering moral lectures. “If courts are truly holding accountable these people, the nationals will definitely not questioning them.” She pointed out the character assassination campaign against her that had been launched by Asad Ali Toor.

The journalist added that she chose to approach the court but the said journalist, without naming him, would have seen the consequences as a reaction from her family if the KP formula of Arshad Aziz Malik was implemented at that time.

Hum News anchorperson Shiffa Yousafzai had filed a case against Pakistani journalist Asad Ali Toor who tried to tarnish her reputation by using objectionable words.
