ISLAMABAD: The acting speaker of the National Assembly, Qasim Khan Suri has sent the threatening diplomatic cable of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the constitution of a judicial commission by the CJP Justice Umar Ata Bandial to probe into the content of the threatening diplomatic cable mentioning the foreign plot to topple the Imran Khan-led government.
The PTI’s call for a judicial commission on the sensitive national issue reminds the memogate styled investigation.
The acting speaker sent the original confidential ‘threat letter’ to the chief justice. It read, “As directed by the Acting Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan, a confidential letter (in original) received from the Cabinet Secretary which was submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt. of Pakistan (Cypher Bureau) to the Hon. Speaker, is onward submitted for kind perusal of the Hon. Chief Justice of Pakistan.”
Fawad Chaudhry confirmed in a Twitter message that the speaker forwarded the original letter to the chief justice. He added that it is the duty of the Supreme Court (SC) to launch an investigation into the diplomatic cable and summoned the concerned envoy and people for recording their testimonies.

In an interview to ARY News, Qasim Khan Suri said that he has personally read the content of the diplomatic cable in which threatening remarks were given to the Pakistani envoy in case of the failure of the no-trust motion against Imran Khan.
He said that it was important to note that just a day after the submission of the diplomatic cable on March 8, the opposition lawmakers had submitted no-trust motion against former prime minister Imran Khan.

Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry had announced that the PTI rejected newly-elected PM Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal to probe into the lettergate scandal through a parliamentary commission. He termed the announcement as a tactic of the PML-N government to get an NRO.
He had demanded the SC to form an independent commission that should be led by person accepted for all.

Lettergate scandal probe
PM Sharif had announced a parliamentary probe into the lettergate scandal in his first speech and claimed that he will resign and go home if they are found involved in any conspiracy.
He announced that the threat letter will be placed before the Parliamentary Committee on National Security in an in-camera briefing and the allegations of a foreign plot to oust Imran Khan will be probed.
