After National Assembly, Senate approved Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill

In Senate, 60 votes were cast in favor of Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill, while 19 votes were cast against it, opposition members protested rejection of their amendment and raised slogans against attacks on judiciary

After the National Assembly, the Senate has also approved the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill. In the Upper House, 60 votes were cast in favor of the bill while 19 votes were cast against it.

The meeting of the Upper House was chaired by Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, during the meeting Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar presented the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill in the House.

While expressing his views in the upper house, the Law Minister said that to strengthen the institutions, the system will have to be improved instead of the personalities, all judges of the Supreme Court are equal.

The National Assembly passed the Supreme Court Bill 2023 yesterday, the Parliament has the power to legislate, a new trend has been seen in the Supreme Court for two decades, the Constitution says not to interfere unnecessarily in the boundaries.

In the Upper House, FATA and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) senators also voted in favor of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill.

Opposition members protested the rejection of the opposition’s amendment in the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill and raised slogans against the attack on the court.

Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Ali Zafar says that if the bill is passed in this way, it will be declared null and void immediately. Important bills should be referred to the Standing Committee.

Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House, Waseem Sajjad, said that those who cannot draw a line to distribute Atta are going to make a law for the Supreme Court.

He termed the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill as an indirect attack on the higher courts and said that you are trying to divide the Supreme Court. It should be remembered that yesterday the National Assembly approved the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill 2023.
