AGP tells reason for writing letter to Shahbaz Sharif
AGP Khalid Jawed Khan has detailed the reason behind writing a letter to Shahbaz Sharif to bring back PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: The Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan has detailed the reason behind writing a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif to bring back Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Supreme Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.
The AGP had written a letter to Shahbaz Sharif for submitting the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif within the next 10 days to avoid facing a contempt of court petition following his undertaking.
The letter read, “A contempt of court petition will be filed against Shehbaz if medical reports did not submit to AGP office within 10 days,” adding that Shehbaz Sharif was supposed to provide regular “duly notarised” medical reports of his brother to the court as per the undertaking given by him to the Lahore High Court (LHC).

“Pursuant to the order in terms of the undertaking, eight documents claiming to be periodical medical reports in respect of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif were filed with the registrar of the court. Last available report date 8.7.2021 was filed vide letter dated 3.8.2021,” the letter stated.
The Punjab government had formed a special medical board on January 14 to examine the medical reports of former premier Nawaz Sharif who had travelled to London in November 2019.
While talking to ARY News, AGP told that he had been ordered to initiate legal proceedings against Shahbaz Sharif by the federal cabinet to which he had written a letter to the PML-N president but he did not address him as the opposition leader.
Pakistan authorities to collect Nawaz Sharif’s medical records in London
Earlier, News360 had reported that the undertaking of the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif may have landed him in trouble which he had submitted for guaranteeing the return of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif after receiving medical treatment abroad.
The federal government had decided to move to the Lahore High Court (LHC) to seek the return of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif and action against Shahbaz Sharif for failing to comply with his commitment to bring back his brother staying in London.
The undertaking document read that Shahbaz Sharif had ensured the return of his brother Nawaz Sharif within four weeks or when doctors declared him fit for travelling back to Pakistan.
Nawaz stay abroad: Shahbaz Sharif’s undertaking in LHC may land him in trouble
Earlier, it emerged that the federal government had now planned to collect medical records of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London after deciding on moving to the Lahore High Court (LHC) against Shahbaz Sharif over ‘fake’ undertaking.
Moreover, the authorities will also seek the opinion of Nawaz Sharif’s physicians regarding his health condition whether he is now able to travel or not.
The development was witnessed amid the speculations of Nawaz Sharif’s planned return to Pakistan in January 2022 after finalising a deal with power centres.
In November 2019, the LHC had granted permission to Nawaz Sharif for travelling abroad for medical treatment for four weeks besides ordering the federal government to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) without any conditions.
The federal government had placed a condition of indemnity bonds for Nawaz Sharif’s travel permission to get the go-ahead for auctioning his properties if he fails to return to Pakistan. However, the PML-N had rejected the government’s ‘biased’ decision ‘based on revenge politics’.
It may be noted here that Nawaz Sharif had departed for London for his medical treatment on November 19, 2019, and never returned.
