Ali Sadpara, an Affectionate Father Who Tried to Save His Son

He gained prominence in the country with the first-ever winter summit of Nanga Parbat in 2016, the ninth highest mountain in the world

Ali Sadpara, the mountaineer who went missing while attempting the K-2 summit, is also an affectionate father who tried to save his son in the deadly circumstances during the expedition. The mountaineer forced his son to descend as the last conversation recalled by Sajid Sadpara as they were short of oxygen and only one could survive.

In the last few days, the name that stormed the social media and has been trending on Twitter, Ali Sadpara, had not been known well by the people of Pakistan before he mysteriously disappeared in pursuit to summit K-2 in winters and to become the first Pakistani to do so.

A rescue operation was launched after the team on the expedition, led by Ali Sadpara, lost connection while ascending the second highest peak in the world. However, no traces of missing mountaineers have been found yet.

Who was Ali Sadpara:

Born as Muhammad Ali, the mountaineer belongs to Sadpara, a village in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan.

The city is famous for its porters helping the summit seekers and Muhammad Ali has been one of them.

The climber started his climbing career in 2004 when he accompanied an expedition to K2.

He gained prominence in the country with the first-ever winter summit of Nanga Parbat in 2016, the ninth highest mountain in the world.

Ali Sadpara, in 2018, made an unsuccessful attempt to summit Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen. However, the climber has reached the apex of Nanga Parbat on four occasions.

The climber has climbed eight of 14 mountains that are more than 8,000 meters above sea level commonly known as Eight-Thousanders.

Ali Sadpara along with his son Sajid Sadpara, John Snorri from Iceland, and JP Mohr from Chile began their push for the K2 from camp 3 but lost their connection with the base camp.

However, Sajid Sadpara descended to Camp 3 due to malfunctioning in oxygen supply equipment.

The decision had been taken at the height of 8,200 meters when Ali Sadpara realized that his son was unable to make any further without supplemental oxygen and regulators of the available equipment had leaked.

In the given circumstances, the loving father forced the return of his son to the base camp.

“When I returned from Bottleneck at 8,200 meters, they were climbing up the Bottleneck. I’m sure they made the K2 summit and on their way back they might have an accident, that’s why they are missing,” he informed.

People of Pakistan including prominent figures have been praying sincerely for the safe return of the trailblazer, however, so far, no official confirmation has been received in this regard.
