KARACHI: Another bomb blast hit Karachi’s Saddar Town on Thursday night just 16 days after a female suicide bomber blew up herself in Karachi University (KU) on April 27.

One person was killed and 13 others got injured in the powerful bomb explosion in which a vehicle of the Pakistan Coast Guard (PCG) was partially damaged and two officials were wounded. The condition of the PCG personnel is out of danger.

Several cars and motorcycles were also damaged during the blast, whereas, the windows of the nearby buildings were shattered due to the high-intensity bomb explosion that occurred at Dr Daud Pota Road.

The deceased man was identified as Umar Siddiqui, an employee of the Jinnah Hospital.

Karachi University suicide blast raises questions on security situation

The investigators established that an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a bicycle which was parked near the United Bakery.

However, police ruled out suspicions of targeting a specific vehicle or institution in the explosion.

The officials of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) told the media that the bomb was made locally and about 2 to 2.5-kilogrammes of explosive material was used in it.

The bomb explosion took place almost two weeks after a horrific suicide bombing carried out by a woman at Karachi University (KU) on April 27.
