The Punjab government has taken another U-turn as the assembly session will now be held today instead of April 16 under the chair of the deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken another U-turn as the assembly session will now be held today instead of April 16 under the chair of the deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

The Punjab Assembly session was summoned on April 6, Wednesday (today) for the election of the Punjab chief minister but the staff and deputy speaker are still reluctant to take a final decision.

The Punjab government is seen puzzled by the evolving political situation of the country and kept delaying the process of the Punjab CM’s election.

Earlier, the Punjab Assembly session was postponed till April 6 in view of the tense political situation, whereas, the deputy speaker changed the session’s date to April 5 for the election of the Punjab CM.

Punjab Assembly to be dissolved if govt fails to complete numbers

According to a notification, the session was summoned on April 56 instead of April 16. Sources said that the date of the assembly session was changed after a meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pervaiz Elahi.

However, the situation turned complex after the emergence of some media reports regarding another change in the assembly session’s date. A new notification read that the session will be held on April 16 which was changed again on April 5 that the new date will be April 6 at 7:50 pm after Iftar timing.

The Punjab Assembly session and the election of the new Punjab CM gain importance in the current political situation after the rejection of the no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Dr Arif Alvi.
