Bilawal & Maryam Electioneering in AJK May End Futile

Bilawal Maryam AJK Election

After Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reached Azad and Jammu Kashmir (AJK) four days ago, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz also seems active in the election campaign.

According to the Election Commission Pakistan (ECP), the 11th election of the AJK Legislative Assembly will be held on July 25.

Sources have confirmed that PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif, during a telephonic conversation, has directed party President Shahbaz Sharif and Vice-President Maryam Nawaz to start electioneering in AJK together.

The sources in the party said both Nawaz and Shahbaz agreed that Maryam Nawaz would lead the campaign and target the government’s Kashmir policy and inflation.

Further, addressing election rallies in AJK, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP would not leave Kashmir’s election field open for the ruling government.

He hoped that the people of AJK would support his party this time like they have done it previously in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) election.

The active participation of Bilawal and Maryam in the AJK election campaign is being questioned as the political analysts believe that they both would not be able to create much influence like they couldn’t in the GB election.

Both leaders had run quite energetic campaigns in the region but failed to get desired results.

Last year, PTI won 22 seats of 33 seats, PPP could claim victory on 5 seats whereas PML-N only grabbed 2 in the general assembly election in GB in 2020.

There are high chances that Imran Khan’s party might establish the government in AJK too after GB.
