Are Fissures Emerging Between Maryam & Hamza?

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) looks divided ever since Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has been released from jail on bail as the weight of authority in the party is not confined to just PML-N Vice President Maryam anymore but Hamza has a share in power too.

Maryam Nawaz had emerged as the de-facto head of PML-N since the party’s top brass was put behind bars in different corruption cases.

After the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly and son of former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was granted bail after nearly 20 months, things don’t seem all okay between him and her cousin.

Although Maryam Nawaz reached Kot Lakhpat jail to receive Hamza when he was freed, both haven’t been seen together much on different occasions.

Even Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto had to meet both leaders of PML-N separately to discuss future the political course after Imran Khan took vote-of-confidence from the national assembly.

It implies a coincidence that has occurred multiple times or a divide within the party as both scions want to give shoulders to the policies of their fathers.

Addressing the party’s Central General Council last week, Maryam Nawaz said that the people trying to split PML-N would fail.

In September 2020, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid had claimed that PML-N would be divided into Nawaz and Shahbaz factions.

However, his prediction has proven wrong at least in terms of the time frame. But, the recent occurrences signify its context may materialize in near future.
