Localities in Karachi Immersed in Sewage Water as Govt Shuts Eye
The locals have demanded the authorities resolve the issue as sewage water was making them sick
The maladministration of Sindh government has left different areas of Karachi in separate districts immersed in sewage water.
The roads and streets in densely populated areas of Liaquatabad No 2 and 3 situated in Union Council (UC) 42 of South district of Karachi are immersed in sewage water for the last couple of weeks.
The locals said the authorities have disappeared and they have been left to deal with stench and filth.
The poor sanitation system in all four zones of South district has put public health at risk. There spewing gutters in different streets of both areas, leaving them submerged in sewage water.
The locals face extreme difficulties in movement due to inundated routes. Several incidents of passers-by falling in sewage water has been reported too.
A roughly estimated figure suggests that as many as 50,000 locals are bearing the brunt of the poor sanitation system. The locals of UC 42 said that stench from wastewater was spreading diseases.
They added that species of insects and mosquitoes were breeding in the water and bit the locals too which could prove hazardous for health.
The locals demanded Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah to immediately take notice of the situation and resolve the issue.
Sewage pond outside public school
Meanwhile, an artificial pond of wastewater has created difficulties for the students to reach a public school in Chakri Goth located in Korangi UC 35.
The health of dozens of schoolchildren is at risk due to lethargy of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

The provincial government had imposed education emergency but the fate of the public schools even in the provincial capital has not changed.
The sewerage water has accumulated right in front of the entrance gate of the public school.
Owing to this, getting inside the school after crossing the pond is a daily challenge for the students.
The locals said that they were unable to bear expenses of private schools to educate their children and sending them to government school was the only option.
They demanded Sindh local government minister to oust black sheep from KWSB and to bring competent people willing to serve public.
They also called on the Sindh education minister to ensure that sewage water did not accumulate outside any public school and take action against officials if it happened.
