Amid political tensions and flood situation, Pakistan met a tragedy as a helicopter carrying senior military officials went missing in Balochistan on Monday night.

According to an official statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “A Pakistan army aviation helicopter which was on flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan lost contact with ATC [air traffic control]”.

Six individuals were on board including Commander XII Corps Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who was supervising the flood relief operations in Balochistan, Director General Pakistan Coast Guard, Major General Amjad, Commander Engineers XII Corps, Brigadier Khalid, Major Saeed (Pilot), Major Talha (Co-Pilot) and Crew Chief Naik Mudassir, reported suggested.

A search operation was underway for the missing army aviation helicopter, whereas, the military media wing said that more details will be shared with the media.

At this time, the government and armed forces were busy conducting relief operations in flood-hit districts of Balochistan for weeks after rains wreaked havoc in the province.

On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also visited Balochistan flood-hit areas alongside National Disaster Management Authority head Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz.

Top political personalities have expressed great concerns over the disappearance of the army aviation chopper and prayed for the safe return of the officers on board.
