The long-due murder case of Asma Rani has finally progressed and a local court in Peshawar has announced a death sentence for the prime suspect Mujahid Afridi whereas his abettors Sadiqullah Afridi and Shahzaib Khattak were exonerated.

The district and sessions judge Ashfaq Taj said that the accused has to pay Rs 2 million as blood money to the victim’s family.

Back in January 2018, Dr Asma Rani was murdered in Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province by Mujahid Afridi, Sadiqullah Afridi, and Shahzaib Khattak for rejecting a marriage proposal.

Following it, Asma’s sister had stated that the suspects had terrorized the whole family and the area and later gunned down her sister.

Soon after the incident came into the limelight, the then Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar immediately took notice of it.

Talking to News360, Asma’s brother Mohammad Imran briefly explained the incident and how the suspects tortured the family even after killing his sister.

Contented with the court’s decision and police cooperation, he still questions the high authorities why other two suspects were charged under stricter sections and requested the court to take action in this regard.

He claimed that although the court has given its decision in the murder case of Asma Rani, he is doubtful that it may get mired in litigation for years if the convicted files an appeal.

He also expressed doubts that Mujahid Afridi may get released on bail sometime in future and trouble the family again.
