Asma Shirazi’s BBC Column Receives Flak From Fraternity

The non-traditional column for BBC Urdu discussed magic, rituals and insertion of pins in voodoo dolls

A column written by journalist Asma Shirazi received flak not just from the supporters of Imran Khan but also from her fraternity members.

The seasoned journalist shared an excerpt from her column written for BBC Urdu on her Twitter handle.

However, it was non-traditional as it discussed magic, rituals, insertion of pins in voodoo dolls, etc.

She penned it down in the backdrop of ongoing tension between Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Pakistan Army over the appointment of DG ISI.

However, the writing piece was equally disliked by her colleagues apart from the supporters of Imran Khan.

They said that the terms and words used in the column by Asma Shirazi didn’t fall into the category of journalism.

Some journalists said that the writing piece was about attacks on Imran Khan’s personal life than politics. They wondered how BBC Urdu published it.

A Twitter user said the column didn’t look as if it was written by a journalist but an official of PML-N.

A PTI supporter said that Asma Shirazi wrote the column on behalf of PML-N to attack Imran Khan personally as they couldn’t find anything political against him.
