SCBA President Nominated in ATC Judge’s Killing

SCBA President Abdul Latif Afridi condemned the killing and said it was a crime in Pashtun culture to target women and children

A judge of a Swat anti-terrorism court (ATC), Aftab Afridi, was killed along with three family members including his wife and two sons near Ambar Interchange in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday while the victim’s family asserts the murder was done over personal rivalry.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Latif Afridi has been nominated in the First Information Report (FIR) along with his son and five other suspects.

The victim’s brother, Saeed Afridi, asserted that the ATC judge was killed over personal rivalry.

“My brother has been murdered by SCBA President Advocate Latif Afridi and his son Danish Afridi as well as Jamal Gulmat Shah, Abid Khan, Badshah, Muhammad Shafiq and Jameel”, he alleged.

Swabi and Jamrud police conducted a joint raid and booked three suspects possibly involved in the incident. The suspect includes a lawyer too and they have been shifted to Swabi.

SCBA official refutes allegations

However, SCBA President Abdul Latif Afridi condemned the killing and refuted allegations leveled against him.

He said it was a crime in Pashtun culture to target women and children.

Attack condemned

The judge’s family was traveling to Islamabad from Peshawar through Swabi when the vehicle was ambushed.

The security guard and driver of Aftab Afridi sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, and KP Governor Shah Farman condemned the heinous act.


The officials vowed perpetrators would be brought to justice.
