Bodies of Eight Victims of Peshawar Blast Handed Over to Their Heirs

PESHAWAR: The bodies of eight victims of the Peshawar Madrassa bomb blast were handed over to their heirs after identification. Later, funeral prayers of three persons were offered. The funeral prayers were attended by JUI-F leaders and the management of the madrassa.

A bomb blast at a Peshawar madrassa on Tuesday had killed at least eight people and injured more than 100 others.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far, meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has denied any involvement in the incident.

The bomb struck shortly after 8 a.m. in the main hall of the madrassa, when students were busy in study. Rescue teams rushed to the spot after the blast and shifted the injured to Lady Reading Hospital, more than 100 injured are being treated at various hospitals in Peshawar, five of them are in critical condition.According to the spokesman Lady Reading Hospital, more than 100 people were injured and four were burnt. 90 injured were discharged after treatment, while five injured were admitted to the LRH burn unit. Four of the injured children are between the ages of 9 and 14, while most of the injured are between 20 and 30 years old.

According to the spokesperson, 8 bodies were handed over to their relatives after identification. Later, funeral prayers of three persons were offered, which were attended by JUI-F leaders and madrassa management.

According to police, a suspect entered the madrassa with the explosives in bag. The blast was caused by an IED for which 4 to 5 kg of explosives were used. The blast severely damaged the madrassa building, however after cleaning, the madrassa was reopened to students.An FIR has been registered in the CTD police station.

IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sanaullah Abbasi visited the blast site.   Talking to media on the occasion, he said that few suspects have been arrested in Bajaur. The investigation is still in its infancy, so information cannot be shared.

Meanwhile, provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai also visited the madrassa. Talking to media on the occasion, he said that terrorism had taken place in Peshawar after a long time. The attack on the madrassa is a cowardly act. Security in the city was on high alert, but the enemy searched for soft targets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has condemned the blast and said that targeting innocent children was a cruel act. He directed the police to investigate all aspects of the incident.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant for Information Kamran Bangash condemned the blast and said that the incident was an attempt to sabotage peace.
