Can PPP Face a Tough Time From PDM Partners?

PPP would be facing a tough time from its PDM partners if Yusuf Raza Gillani is disqualified or loses the election of Senate chairman

Although Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is holding the steering of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), it could face a tough time from its partners if things do not go according to plan.

The other prominent parties in the 11 parties opposition alliance including Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat-e-Ulema – Fazl (JUI-F) have agreed to PPP’s demand in the nomination of Senate chairman.

Yusuf Raza Gillani from PPP has been nominated as the joint chairman of PDM for Senate chairman.

However, PDM’s joint candidate may face ineligibility as PTI has filed a petition against him in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the proceeding has commenced on Tuesday.

Besides disqualification, the other possible worst-case-scenario PDM could encounter is Gillani’s defeat. There is a margin of only six votes as the government coalition has 47 seats while PDM has 53.

The situation could turn abysmal for PDM let alone for PPP if Yusuf Raza Gillani remains unable to occupy the top seat in the upper house despite having numbers.

The ruling party of Sindh was adamant to fret PTI government through parliamentary fashion.

However, the other two major partners including PML-N and JUI-F were adamant to go a little harsh and to take to the roads against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, PPP did not receive an anticipated welcome from PDM partners to bring a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

PML-N believes that they would not be able to gather enough numbers to oust Buzdar in Punjab while PPP’s demand was not backed by JUI-F and others as well.
