Pakistanis to Haul Via ‘Electric Buses’ Soon

There will be special stations for recharging the electric buses on the motorway and Grand Trunk (GT) Road

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Daewoo Express, Skywell Automobile China, and Hitachi ABB Power Grid from Sweden for launching a project of electric buses in Pakistan.

Pakistan has been a major contributor to environment-friendly fuels especially in the transportation sector.

The country has been using eco-friendly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for a long time, but now due to depleted gas reserves, Pakistan will import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The signing ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Sweden H.E. Henrik Persson, Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar, and Ambassadors of South Korea, Switzerland, and Japan.

Besides, Daewoo Express Chairman Shaheryar Chishti, Vice President Sameer Chishti of Daewoo Express Pakistan, Country Director Najeeb Ahmad of Hitachi Grid also participated in the ceremony.

Daewoo Express, Pakistan’s leading transport and cargo company will operate the services of electric buses under the agreement.

Currently, the company has 378 buses and 60 terminals across Pakistan.

The terminals will have a booth for charging electric buses while the transport and cargo services will be provided from Punjab to Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and vice-versa.

Punjab Governor Mohammad Sarwar said that electric busses were the need of the future.

While appreciating the policy and manufacture of an electric vehicle, he assured that Punjab would be at the forefront in this regard and the first electric vehicles and buses would be launched in other cities including Lahore.

In the first phase, Skywell Automobile will work on a strategy for the local production of electric buses under Pakistan’s market study. Whereas, a local electric bus manufacturing plant will be set up in the second phase.

Country Director Hitachi Power Grid Najeeb Ahmad said that his company would arrange all facilities for electric vehicles while special charging stations will be set up on the motorway and Grand Trunk (GT) Road.
