Civil Society showed solidarity with Jibran Nasir against the 'malicious campaign'. The Diocese of Karachi lodged complaint against Bilal Ahmed.
The Joint Action Committee of the Civil Society has expressed solidarity with the lawyer-cum-social activist Jibran Nasir against the ‘malicious campaign’ against him. Moreover, the Church of Pakistan – Diocese of Karachi lodged a complaint against journalist-cum-YouTuber Bilal Ahmed.
Jibran Nasir, who is representing Mehdi Kazmi in Dua Zehra ‘abduction and child marriage’ proceedings, has been facing criticism by some YouTubers. A few days ago, the journalist-cum-YouTuber Bilal Ahmed accused Jibran Nasir of having ‘foreign and anti-Islam agenda’ in one of his videos.
The journalist also alleged that Nasir also played an important role to convert the religion of a Muslim girl into Christianity. The video was allegedly recorded on the premises of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) by Ahmed.
Some journalistic circles expressed concerns over the recording of the video that could spark a religious hatred wave among nationals. They also asked KPC office-bearers to take notice of Ahmed’s video and discourage filming of controversial content on the premises of the press club.

Church seeks action
Moreover, the Church of Pakistan – Diocese of Karachi sought an action against journalist Bilal Ahmed ‘for inciting animosity against the Christian community and compromising the security of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Abdullah Haroon Road, Saddar, Karachi.’
The society of archbishops wrote the letter to the Sindh Rangers, the station house officer (SHO) Artillery Maidan police station and the director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Cell – Karachi to take action against Ahmed.
The church complained about the breach of security of the Holy Trinity Cathedral and malign a Christian family in Ahmed’s video on YouTube focusing upon the cathedral’s building. The letter read, the said Christian family was the victim of abduction, child marriage and rape after being forced to convert her religion before being recovered and her custody was handed to her parents by the high court.
The Diocese of Karachi termed the YouTube video an attempt to incite hatred leading to mob violence and attacks against the Cathedral and the Christian community. It also condemned the statement of calling Christian community ‘anti-Islam and anti-Muslim’ that outraged the sentiments of the community. The church sought security for the cathedral and action against Bilal Ahmed.
