Ghathar Villagers Compel to Travel Miles to Fetch Water
The solar-powered water supply scheme was launched in Ghathar village in 2018 but it is inoperative to date owing to alleged corruption of the authorities
The villagers of Ghathar in Qambar Shahdadkot are forced to travel up to 6-kilometers (kms) to fetch fresh drinking water as the supply line built in 2018 still runs dry.
The foundation of the project was laid in Union Council (UC) Yaro Dero in Warah Tehsil of Qambar Shahdadkot district in 2018.
However, it is inoperative to date owing to alleged corruption of the authorities.

Therefore, the villagers, mostly children, are compelled to travel miles to get fresh drinking water.
The minors told News360 that their elders leave for work in the morning and it is their job to fetch water from miles away.
They said that they travel on foot and sometimes use motorbikes, rickshaws, and donkey carts.
The first water supply scheme for Ghathar village was launched in 1988 but it fell prey to departmental corruption.
The administration had installed a transformer for its power supply that is still without a connection and the related record of the device is also missing.
The villagers decried that their water shortage issue was still intact after three decades despite ribbon cutting.
They called for anti-graft busters including National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate the matter.
The Ghathar villagers demanded the Sindh government to redress the prolonged water supply issue at the earliest.
