Daska Results: PML-N, PTI Put Undue Pressure on ECP

District returning officer (DRO) has completed the inquiry report on alleged rigging in the by-poll in Daska

Even after three days of deadly by-poll in the NA-75 Daska constituency, the tensions between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) have not diffused and both parties are exerting undue pressure on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before the result.

Soon after rigging complaints started to make headlines, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) took notice of the rigging reports and tried to establish contact with the police and the Punjab chief secretary about the ‘missing’ presiding officers.

However, the efforts went futile.

CEC noted that the results of 20 polling stations were received with a massive delay while the presiding officers could not be contacted despite several attempts.

“The DRO and RO of the NA-75 (Sialkot) constituency informed that there is a suspicion of falsification in the results from 20 polling stations”, ECP said in a statement.

After the polling day, the ruling PTI started claiming its victory in NA-75 Daska.

Subsequently, PML-N Vice President reached the constituency the next day and held a rally.

She started evoking occurrences of alleged massive rigging at 20 polling stations. Maryam Nawaz called for a fresh election in the constituency.

ECP has halted the results of 20 polling stations despite the persistence of government officials to release the results.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz claimed that PTI has won the Daska election by a margin of 7,000 votes.

Other ministers also demanded ECP issue the result.

Asad Umar questioned the hypocrisy of PML-N for accepting the results of by-polls only where its candidates got more votes and decry rigging where its candidates could not take the majority.

As per the latest development, the district returning officer (DRO) has completed the inquiry report on alleged rigging in the by-poll of Daska.

The commission would review it in tomorrow’s meeting after which it is expected to announce the result on the vacant seat.

However, PML-N and PTI are both putting pressure on ECP which seems to be an attempt to wash away efforts of the commission and for making the results of the Daska election dubious.
