Dejected woman who got evicted from Nasla Tower passes away in Karachi

KARACHI: A former resident of Nasla Tower named Shamim Usman has passed away in Karachi who got dejected after being evicted from her house.

The dejected resident of Flat Number 104 of the ill-fated Nasla Tower residential building, Shamim Usman, has passed away in Karachi following her eviction due to demolition orders in light of the Supreme Court (SC).

Late Shamim Usman, 65, was a former employee of the national flag-carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), who had spent all of her savings to purchase a flat in Nasla Tower.

After the demolition orders of the multi-storey building alongside Sharea Faisal Road, Ms Usman had made several appeals to the top court, Commissioner Karachi, Sindh chief minister, governor and higher authorities to prevent her family from being displaced.

However, she had found no choice other than to vacate her flat following the strict orders issued by the SC.

Earlier in October, the Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of Nasla Tower within a week time and rejected the Karachi Commissioner’s plea seeking 50 days period.

The court ordered the Karachi commissioner to ensure payment to Nasla Tower victims from the builder.

In September, the Supreme Court had binned the review petition filed by the residents and the builder against the demolition of Nasla Tower.
