The much-awaited Pandora Papers released by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) do not contain the name of Prime Minister Imran Khan which is different from when the Panama Papers were leaked and contained the name of the ruling family.
As many as 700 Pakistanis have secured their names in the Pandora Papers including Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, PTI Senator Faisal Vawda, Punjab Minister Aleem Khan, PPP’s Sharjeel Memon, PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar’s son Ali Dar, Federal Minister for Water Resources Monis Elahi and Axact’s owner Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh.
However, the major difference between both investigative papers is the name of the one in the driving seat of the government.
When Panama Papers were published in 2016, it included the name of then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members possessing offshore companies.

But the latest documents published by ICIJ don’t contain the name of Prime Minister Imran Khan or his family members.
PTI supporters were on cloud nine as Imran Khan’s name wasn’t found in the Pandora Papers.
The premier took to his Twitter account and welcomed Pandora Papers exposing the ill-gotten wealth of elites, accumulated through tax evasion & corruption & laundered out to financial “havens”.
He also vowed to investigate all Pakistanis named in the documents.
My govt will investigate all our citizens mentioned in the Pandora Papers & if any wrongdoing is established we will take appropriate action. I call on the international community to treat this grave injustice as similar to the climate change crisis.

“My over-two decades struggle has been premised on the belief that countries are not poor but corruption causes poverty because money is diverted from being invested in our people. Also, this resource-theft causes devaluation, leading to thousands of poverty-related deaths”, Imran Khan said in his tweet.
