Drop scene as the three young girls, Dua Zehra, Nimra Kazmi and Dinar, were found safe and sound with almost the same stories of marrying at their own will after fleeing from their homes in Karachi to different cities of Punjab.

The back-to-back incidents of young girls fleeing from their homes have exposed the dysfunctional family relationships in Pakistan, whereas, an alleged online gaming app, PUBG, turned out to be a crucial part of connecting the girls with others.

It emerged that all three girls had befriended fellow players during PUBG online game before fleeing from their homes to marry them.

Dua Zahra, who went missing from the Malir area of Karachi, was taken into custody by the police from Pakpattan. Yesterday, Karachi police had shared the marriage certificate of Dua Zahra with Lahore police, after which Lahore police started an investigation.

According to police sources, one of the witnesses namely Asghar Ali mentioned his Haveli Lakha address. The witness was reportedly arrested by Okara police.

Police sources added that when Asghar Ali was questioned, he said that both Dua and her husband Zaheer had come to him and are now in Pakpattan.

Following Asghar Ali’s statement, police raided the house of a landlord in Pakpattan from where Dua and her husband Zaheer were taken into custody. According to sources, Zaheer was staying at his uncle’s residence.

Meanwhile, Dua Zahra filed a harassment suit against her father in the local court. Dua and Zaheer had got married on April 17 while the petition was filed on April 19. In the petition, Dua Zahra asked her father to forcedly enter her house in Lahore, further alleging that her father wanted to forcedly marry her to her cousin Zainul Abidin.

Dua Zehra had also accused her father and cousin of trying to kidnap her, saying that on April 18, father Mehdi Kazmi and cousin Zainul Abidin suddenly broke into the house and during that time father and cousin shouted at me and my husband and threatened them.

Dua said that her father and cousin had tried to abduct me from my house but when the people of the neighbourhood gathered, their abduction bid failed.

Dua took the stance that she did a free-will marriage and she was living a happy life with her husband. She also demanded the authorities take criminal action against her father and cousin. The judicial magistrate summoned Zehra on May 18 to produce evidence against her father.

Zehra’s Zaheer Ahmed said that he got into contact with Dua through the PUBG game. Zaheer Ahmed said in a statement that he is a resident of Lahore and they stayed in touch for years. Zaheer Ahmed said that Dua Zahra came from Karachi by herself via a rented car and messaged him outside her house.

Zaheer Ahmed said that his family members were ready for marriage, and they also wanted the family members of Dua to agree but they did not give a positive answer to them. He added that their refusal led them to go for a free-will marriage. Ahmed further said that he has just passed FSC and applied for admission at a university for graduation.

Yesterday, a video statement of Dua Zahra came out in which Dua Zahra said that she came from the house of her own choice. She alleged that her family members were trying to force me to marry someone else. She also complained about being subjected to torture by her parents.

“No one kidnapped me, I came here of my own choice nor I have brought any valuables from my house. My family is telling wrong age of me as I am 18. I had done court marriage with Zaheer Ahmed and I was not forced by anyone, hence, I should not be bothered anymore. I am very happy with my husband here.”
