Dua Zehra case: CDR confirms Zaheer Ahmed’s presence in Karachi on ‘abduction day’

Major progress was made in the Dua Zehra case as the investigation officer (IO) submitted his reply to the additional district and sessions court East in Karachi today.

While talking to the media, the IO confirmed that the call data record (CDR) showed Zaheer Ahmed’s presence in Karachi on the day when Dua Zehra went missing from her residence. He said that the complainant has a right to raise objections.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zehra’s father Mehdi Ali Kazmi filed a petition to remove the IO Shaukat Shahani from the case which was heard by the additional district and sessions judge Mehboob Awan today.

After the submission of IO reply, the court adjourned the hearing till July 19.

IO still backing accused Zaheer Ahmed

Kazmi’s lawyer Jibran Nasir updated the progress on the case and wrote on Twitter, “Police today submitted progress report in #DuaZahra case & finally informed Court that they got CDR of Zaheer and on day of abduction i.e. 16th April he was in Karachi. This should’ve been discovered 2 months ago. The kidnapper is forcing child is lie on camera in his favour.”

“They were 2 aspects to the defence put up in case of #DuaZahra by accused Zaheer. (i) Dua is 18 years old and a major. This was proven false by medical board. Dua is 14, a minor (ii) Dua went to Lahore on her own & met Zaheer there. This has now been proven false by CDR of Zaheer.”

“However I.O. in #DuaZahra case is still trying to provide benefit to accused Zaheer by removing S. 364APPC (kidnapping with intent to force sexual relations) & replacing it with S. 363PPC (simple kidnapping) and no mention of S. 365B (kidnapping to compel to marriage) & 375/377A.”

Prior to the hearing, Jibran Nasir told News360 that the court will decide on the continuation of the hearing here or suggest approaching other specialised courts in the case after the IO submitted its reply.

Is Dua Zehra being forced to resist action against Zaheer Ahmed?

The lawyer said that the present IO has seemingly decided to sabotage the case. He said that they also met police high-ups to change the IO but no progress was made so far.

He added that they will call out police high-ups as well in the next step if the department fails to adopt the right direction of the investigation into the case.
