Dua Zehra, SHC, medical examination, abduction case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered a medical examination of Dua Zehra to ascertain her age as she claimed that she is 18-year-old. The hearing is adjourned till June 8.

Dua Zehra and her husband Zaheer Ahmed were produced before the SHC after they had been arrested from Chishtian.

A two-member bench of the SHC comprising Justice Amjad Sahito and Justice Junaid Ghaffar heard the Dua Zehra abduction case. The judge asked Zehra to tell her relation with Mehdi Kazmi to which she said that he is her father.

She apprised the court that she was not abducted and she left her home by her own choice.

Justice Ghaffar remarked that the girl’s statement should be recorded and the abduction case will be concluded.

She told the court that she was recovered from Chishtian and she does not know the complete address of her residence. She said that she is 18 years old and she wants to live with Zaheer Ahmed.

Advocate General Sindh told the court that the orders were fulfilled to produce Zehra immediately after her recovery. He said that Zehra is due to appear before the Lahore High Court (LHC) on June 10. He added that Dua Zehra left the province of her own choice and she did not violate the law by marrying in Punjab.

Mehdi Kazmi’s lawyer said that it is an abduction case of the girl. He argued that Dua Zehra is 14-year-old as per her birth certificate.

Dua Zehra rejected to meet her parents in the courtroom. To this, the judges said that they cannot force anyone to meet someone.
