Election Commission of Pakistan, under the order of Supreme Court, ready to conduct elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, After consulting President and Governor KPK, it was decided to write letters to Ministry of Interior and Finance for providing security and funds

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up to implement the Supreme Court’s order regarding holding general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days.

According to the decision of the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, a meeting was held regarding the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in which the members participated.

In the meeting presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner, it has been decided to hold elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and it has been agreed to maintain the election schedule for 54 days.

The commission decided to hold elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the light of the Supreme Court’s order, but Ramadan and Eid will also be taken into consideration in the proposal of the date of the election.

In the meeting of the Election Commission, it has also been decided to consult with the President Dr. Arif Alvi and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ghulam Ali regarding the general elections in both the provinces.

Sources have said that the Election Commission will demand 20 billion rupees for the general elections in both the provinces, but Article 220 will be used for non-cooperation of the federation.

According to the sources, the Election Commission has reiterated its determination to complete the training of the staff for the provincial election in three days, in this regard a letter will be written to the federal secretaries.

According to the sources, the Election Commission of Pakistan will write a letter to the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Finance asking for the provision of security and funds for the general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On the other hand, after the decision of the Supreme Court, the Lahore High Court has declared the petition filed on the issue of not giving the date of election in Punjab invalid.

In its decision, the court said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the election to be held in 90 days, in such a case there is no justification for contempt of court.

The Peshawar High Court has also dismissed the petition filed regarding the general election in the province as ineffective in the light of the Supreme Court’s decision.
