Establishment, arms recovery: Is Maryam Nawaz being misguided about PTI long march?
PML-N VP Maryam Nawaz gave statements regarding the motives of PTI-led Islamabad long march and alleged arms recovery in Lahore.
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has given statements regarding the motives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Islamabad long march and alleged arms recovery in Lahore.
Maryam Nawaz claimed in a press conference yesterday that PTI’s long march was not against the government but the establishment. She was of the view that the PTI Chairman Imran Khan was actually targeting the establishment in his speeches by calling them Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq but not his political rivals including her, Nawaz Sharif or Shehbaz Sharif.
She also claimed that Imran Khan also launched a malicious campaign against the judiciary and hurled abusive remarks against the judges after they issued a verdict to restore the National Assembly (NA).
The PML-N VP criticised Khan for giving a different stance regarding the judiciary when a verdict was given in his favour by the Supreme Court (SC) after a suo motu notice against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking about the Islamabad long march, Maryam Nawaz said that the government was aware of PTI’s nefarious designs and the interior ministry received intelligence reports about the PTI amassing weapons for use against the law enforcement agencies.
In another statement today, Maryam said that weapons have been recovered by Lahore police from the vehicles of the PTI Lahore office-bearers Zubair Niazi and Bajash Niazi and a case was registered.
“This is the ugly face of the so-called long march. These are the intentions,” she alleged.

On the other hand, CCPO Lahore gave a contradictory statement regarding the recovery of weapons from the PTI Lahore office-bearers and said that they seized the arms from the PTI leaders’ houses.
Meanwhile, the PTI office-bearers claimed that they are heading toward Islamabad to attend the long march.
The contradictory statements of the PML-N VP and the Punjab police office raised the question of whether Maryam Nawaz is being misguided regarding the developments of the PTI’s long march in Islamabad.
Analysts said that if Maryam Nawaz raised suspicions about Imran Khan and his political party’s motive against the military establishment, then the statement should be given by the establishment by itself instead of a politician who is in the ruling position.
They added that her and Punjab police officers’ statements also turned out to be contradictory. They said that such statements could have acted as a catalyst for the tense political situation in the country.
