Federal govt takes revolutionary step, shifts 10,700 schools to solar energy

Experts say Pakistan is considered to be the third most suitable country in the world for solar energy production as the sun shines here 315 days a year.

10,700 schools located in remote areas of Punjab have been converted to solar energy, while another 4,200 schools, 2,000 hospitals and primary health centers will also be converted to solar energy.

The government has announced that the Prime Minister’s official residence and office should also be switched to solar energy within a month.

Experts say that the future of Pakistan is related to solar energy because solar energy is a clean, cheap and environment-friendly source of electricity that will not only reduce the burden of inflation on the common man but also reduce transmission losses, power theft and revolving debts. The method of obtaining electricity from solar energy is becoming increasingly popular in Pakistan. Millions of citizens of the country have installed solar panels in their homes and other buildings, but many solar energy projects have been successfully completed at the government level as well as 10,700 government schools of Punjab.

The project of supplying solar energy to these schools with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been completed.

According to an Asian Development Bank spokesperson, the installation of solar energy panels in 10,700 schools in Punjab has been completed through the Access to Eco-friendly Energy Investment Program and provided uninterrupted electricity to these schools in the summer. is going By which the students and teachers have got convenience, the government is also saving on electricity bills.

Most of the schools in Punjab which are being supplied with electricity through solar energy are located in remote and backward areas of Punjab where either there is no electricity or there were difficulties in continuous supply of electricity.

Sources said that the government is encouraging cheap and environment-friendly energy projects under which 4,200 more schools are being converted to solar power, while two thousand hospitals and primary health care facilities with the support of the Asian Development Bank are under this project. Solar panels will also be installed in the centers to ensure the provision of basic health services to the people in rural areas.

The government has announced that the prime minister’s office and official residence will be switched to solar energy within a month.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he will announce the National Solar Policy on August 1. Under the policy, solar energy generating panels of up to 1000 MW will be installed on government buildings in the next 10 years.

In Balochistan, a plan to transfer tube wells to solar energy with the funds of the government is also under consideration, under which 30 thousand tube wells of the province will be supplied with electricity through solar energy, the cost of this project is 300 billion rupees.

The provincial and federal governments paid billions of rupees to support the payment of the electricity bills of the agricultural tube wells of Balochistan. The transition of the tube wells to solar energy will save the national treasury billions of rupees annually.

The government is also considering converting oil-fired power plants and 2,000 feeders of 11 KW to solar power.

The Parliament of Pakistan has already been switched to solar energy with the cooperation of China, thus the Pakistani Parliament is the first parliament in the world to meet its electricity needs with solar energy.

According to experts, Pakistan is considered to be the third most suitable country in the world for solar energy production as the sun shines here 315 days a year. But Pakistan is still ranked 44th in the list of solar energy-producing countries.
